HIGHLIGHTS...

The UCLA Social Sciences Initiative (SSI) was developed to highlight UCLA's unparalleled strength and stature in the Social Sciences. In its first year, it has focused its energies towards the interdisciplinary investigation of a common theme: Social Inequalities and Social Disparities in Los Angeles and Beyond

Utilizing the “laboratory” of Los Angeles, SSI hopes to reveal more complete insights into the causes and consequences of social inequalities and social disparities. Inherent to the mission of SSI is the advancement of interdisciplinary scholarship, research, practice, and partnership to inform effective and innovative solutions.

As a real and effective collaboration between Deans and faculty from across the University, SSI is a unique creation with tremendous promise.  The past year has demonstrated an impressive level of commitment from faculty to SSI and the powerful potential for this collaboration to confirm UCLA’s academic prominence and to establish our leading role in Los Angeles and the greater California community.
